November 2015, 1 Veteran Foundation was created with an idea Save A Pet Save a Vet. Their mission is to help veterans and first responders who are dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) by providing service dogs at little to no cost to the veterans. In their 1st year since opening, their goal was to train five service dogs, they ended the year with eight service dogs trained and two placed with their veteran. The dogs are rescue dogs from local animal shelters, giving both the dog and the Veteran a second chance. Since 2015, over 60 dogs have been trained and placed. Their goal is to raise awareness of the struggles that veterans with PTSD deal with daily and put a stop to veteran suicide.
